Split Rack Ribs has been proudly family-owned and operated since 2024. For decades, our pit master, John Nordberg, dreamed of bringing his passion for bold, flavorful BBQ to life.

For over 40 years, the Nordberg family has taken camping trips along the Gunflint Trail. One of the highlights of the drive up the scenic North Shore is the iconic Split Rock Lighthouse, perched on the cliffs above Lake Superior. During one of those trips, John joked that you could name a BBQ joint ‘Split Rack Ribs’ after the lighthouse.

That lighthearted moment turned into a long-held dream—and in 2024, it finally came to life.
